MHT-CET 2027 Syllabus, Exam Pattern & Important Changes
The MHT-CET is a state-sponsored exam in Maharashtra that provides students who complete their Bachelor Degree to apply to graduate Science, Engineering or Pharmacy Colleges and Universities to complete Master Degrees after obtaining their undergraduate degree.
Over 100,000 students took the MHT-CET in 2022/23 with 5% growth from the 2021/22 academic year. Many students that apply through CAC are currently studying Engineering or Pharmacy while others study different areas such as Hospitality and Business.
In addition to being able to attend a College or University right after finishing High School through CAC, taking the MHT-CET could benefit you throughout your career and should be considered.

The MHT-CET Exam Format
Based upon the fact that MHT-CET has consistently been given in May, it is expected that as many of your local and state colleges/universities prepare their test schedules this spring they will try to align them as closely as possible (if not on the exact same day) with the MHT-CET Entrance Examination this spring. Completing their degree with satisfactory grades will open many different avenues of opportunity for each student in their chosen field no matter where they may live throughout Indiana or the rest of the United States.
1. Engineering courses
2. Pharmacy courses
3. Agricultural degree programs
4. All other professional degrees
All school-aged students are able to apply for the MHT-CET examination regardless of where they have come from (Maharashtra State Board, CBSE, ICSE, or any other). Although students from all different parts of India may apply to take the MHT-CET examination, over 95% of students who take the MHT-CET examination would have attended K-12 (first to twelve) education in Maharashtra.
The MHT-CET is the primary entrance exam used by many colleges and universities in Maharashtra as part of their admission process into engineering schools.
Expected Major Changes to the MHT-CET and JEE Main Examination (2027)
One of the major changes expected in the near future will impact both the MHT-CET and the JEE Main examinations and will incorporate two rounds of testing at selected times during the year (as with other currently available entrance examinations).
Currently, students have the opportunity to test twice during the academic year (once at the beginning of the fall semester and once at the end of the spring semester). Future students will continue to have two opportunities to test, however, the higher of the two results will be used for admission purposes, regardless of the time of year the examination(s) occurred.
By having two opportunities to take an admission exam, students have more opportunities to pass the examination.
- Provides freedom from the pressure of a single exam date
- Allows students to have a second opportunity to improve their percentile score
- Allows students to make mistakes in one attempt without losing their chance to get admissions based on their other attempt.
If this continues in 2027, students can expect:
- Attempt 1 around April 2027
- Attempt 2 around May 2027

MHT-CET 2027 Exam Pattern
The MHT-CET pattern is different from JEE Main in several ways. Speed and accuracy matter a lot because the paper contains a large number of direct and concept-based questions.
Recent exam pattern updates show:
- Computer-Based Test mode
- Multiple-choice questions
- No negative marking
- Higher Class 12 weightage
MHT-CET 2027 PCM Exam Pattern
| Subject | Number of Questions | Marks |
| Physics | 50 | 50 |
| Chemistry | 50 | 50 |
| Mathematics | 50 | 100 |
| Total | 150 | 200 |
Duration
- Physics + Chemistry: 90 Minutes
- Mathematics: 90 Minutes
Marking Scheme
- Physics/Chemistry: 1 mark per question
- Mathematics: 2 marks per question
- No negative marking
The absence of negative marking makes smart attempt strategy extremely important.

MHT-CET vs JEE Main
A common mistake students make is assuming both exams require the same strategy.
They do not.
| Factor | MHT-CET | JEE Main |
| Difficulty Level | Moderate | Higher |
| Speed Requirement | Very High | High |
| Negative Marking | No | Yes |
| Board Alignment | Maharashtra Board | NCERT-Based |
| Question Style | Direct + Formula Based | Conceptual + Analytical |
| Maths Weightage | Higher | Equal Weightage |
Many students preparing for JEE also appear for MHT-CET, but CET requires separate mock practice because the question style & speed level are different.
Biggest Preparation Mistakes Students Make
Ignoring Maharashtra Board Textbooks
MHT-CET questions are heavily aligned with State Board concepts.
Solving Only JEE Questions
JEE-level preparation helps concepts, but CET needs speed-focused MCQ practice.
Not Practicing Timed Papers
Students often know concepts but fail due to poor speed management.
Ignoring Mathematics
Maths carries double marks weightage compared to Physics and Chemistry.
Delaying Revision
Without revision, formulas and reactions disappear quickly from memory.
Best Strategy to Crack MHT-CET 2027
1. Finish Class 11 Early
Students who complete Class 11 topics before entering Class 12 stay far more relaxed later.
2. Focus on PYQs
Previous year questions reveal:
- Repeated concepts
- Important formulas
- Weightage trends
- Paper difficulty
3. Practice Full-Length Mock Tests
Mock tests help improve:
- Speed
- Accuracy
- Question selection
- Exam temperament
Students scoring well usually attempt regular timed tests for several months before the exam.
4. Maintain Formula Notes
Especially for:
- Physics formulas
- Organic Chemistry reactions
- Mathematics shortcuts
Quick revision notes save huge amounts of time.
5. Study According to Weightage
Not every chapter carries equal marks.
Students now increasingly use chapter-weightage tracking sheets and revision trackers to improve preparation efficiency.
Current Student Trends in MHT-CET Preparation
Trend 1: Early Preparation from Class 11
Students are beginning serious preparation much earlier now.
Trend 2: Online Mock Test Culture
Most serious aspirants now depend heavily on:
- Online tests
- AI analysis tools
- Performance dashboards
- Revision planners
Trend 3: Focus on Attempt 1
Many students now treat the first attempt as the main scoring opportunity because the second attempt often overlaps with boards and practicals.
Mental Pressure During MHT-CET Preparation
Students often underestimate how stressful entrance preparation becomes after December of Class 12.
Common challenges include:
- Backlog pressure
- Mock test anxiety
- Board exams
- Practical exams
- Comparing scores with friends
The solution is not studying endlessly without breaks.
Students perform better when they:
- sleep properly,
- revise consistently,
- practice daily,
- and avoid panic-based studying.
A bad mock score does not define final percentile.
Final Words
MHT-CET 2027 preparation is not about studying the entire day without direction. It is about:
- consistency,
- smart revision,
- regular mock tests,
- and strong basics.
When students maintain discipline for two years, they typically achieve better results than those attempting to prepare quickly within the last few months of their studies.
Although there is currently an increasing amount of competition, there are also more resources available that can assist students preparing for competitive exams than ever before.
SSR Academy offers specifically designed academic programs for students who want structured coaching and support while studying for MHT-CET and JEE exams; these programs aim to help students prepare for these exams with confidence.
